In case you missed it: the New York Times’ Opinion Section has a new (and pretty awesome feature) – a project called “Transgender Lives: Your Stories.”
On the New York Times website it reads: “As part of a series of editorials about transgender experiences, we are featuring personal stories that reflect the strength, diversity and challenges of the community. Welcome to this evolving collection.”
Transgender and gender non-conforming folks from all over have since been sharing their stories, such as coming out to friends and family, their identities, and their personal successes and losses.
As we’ve said quite a lot in recent posts (like the Bruce Jenner interview or the Men’s Health Ultimate Guy contest), this is another huge moment for transgender visibility. Through this project, the New York Times helps to highlight the humanity, uniqueness, and complexity of all people, especially transgender folks.
It’s a moving snapshot of what it means to be a trans person today.
